Bio

Robbie has worked in art departments going right back to 1993, when for Jane Campion's 'The Piano' he was first bitten by the bug of behind the scenes action.

Building sandcastles, wrangling floating piano cases in a surging tide at Karekare Beach and hiding out of shot rocking boats to simulate the sea while getting fed and paid seemed like the best job ever. That only inspired him to seek out more work in associated arts industries and as he did, so did his range of skills diversify and increase.

Fast forward 30 years and since then, he has been an art director/production designer, theatre flyman, scaffolder, head of Rigging for World of Wearable art and NZ Arts Festival in Wellington, an indy record label manager in Christchurch, gig promoter, graphic designer, stencil artist, screenprinter, aspiring fashion designer, cafe owner in Nelson, small businessman, Pasifikan ocean voyager and entrepreneur, but most importantly, a dedicated father.

Having been out of the screen game for over 15 years, and settled back in Christchurch, Robbie - now in his mid 50's - is looking to establish himself again in an Art Department role of whatever capacity. No project is too big, no role too small

He has recently taken to writing, joined the NZ Writers Guild and is also looking to turn his words into moving screen images so others can enjoy what he sees in the V.I.P lounge of his own mind.

Visualizing scenes, sets and populating them with props/backgrounds comes as naturally to him as breathing.

As a practising Taoist forever learning the Tao of things through TaiChi, Qigong and Feng shui, Robbie considers himself a GC, Zen AF and would love the opportunity to sit, chat, drink coffee with you and negotiate how best we can work together to maximise the potential of your project and further our mutual interests.
