Hundreds of people die on New Zealand roads, with many more seriously injured – and it’s up to the highly specialised officers of the SCU to establish the cause of these tragic incidents.

During the making of a series of SCU, a crew spent six months on call 24/7 following the police officers from Waitemata and Counties Manukau SCU as they carried out their crash investigations.

Our cameras were there from the first phone call - a call that can come at any time of the day or night – each episode takes the viewer behind the scenes as the SCU carry out their detective investigation, piecing together the cause of each crash. Along with expert analysis as well as heart-felt family interviews, the series drives home some hard-hitting safety messages.
